Futsal Champions League: Piast Gliwice draw 2-2 with Ujpest and lead their group

Piast Gliwice, the reigning Polish futsal champions, drew 2-2 with Ujpest Budapest in their second group match of the futsal Champions League. The result leaves the Gliwice side with four points after two games, though they had hoped for a full six.

How the match went

Piast's opponents were the best futsal team in Hungary. According to the Sportowe Fakty report, Ujpest lost their first match to the Azerbaijani champions.

Piast had the upper hand from the start. The Gliwice side attacked and created chances, but wasted many of them. They led 1-0 at half-time thanks to an own goal by Thiago Cardoso in the 10th minute.

Franco Spellanzon made it 2-0 in the 28th minute. Ujpest, however, hit back within a short time: Mate Suscsak scored in the 36th minute, and a minute later Zoltan Szalmas levelled the score. Piast kept looking for a win until the end, but had to settle for one point.

The situation in the group

Going into the final round, the Polish champions lead the group. However, all four teams still have a chance of qualifying, so the result of the last match will matter.

On Friday 30 October 2026, Piast will play the Azerbaijani champions, Araz Naxcivan. The Azerbaijani side lost 5-3 to Bubacara Cazin on Wednesday.

Background

Piast regularly play in European futsal competitions. Last season they reached the last 16 of the Champions League, where they lost the two-legged tie to Kazakhstan's FK Semey. In 2026 they retained the Polish title won a year earlier, becoming national champions for the third time in their history.
