Film "Jantar" about Anna Jantar: nationwide casting for the lead role begins

Preparations have begun for "Jantar", a feature film inspired by the life and story of Anna Jantar, one of the most popular Polish singers of the 1970s. The makers have announced a nationwide casting call for the lead role.

Who is behind the film

The producer is Robert Kijak, president of NEXT FILM. The director and co-writer is Daniel Jaroszek, who wrote the screenplay with Tatiana Zawrzykraj-Kutz. Artistic supervision has been taken on by Natalia Kukulska, the singer's daughter. According to media reports, she wants her parents' story to be portrayed with respect.

In an interview with Martyna Podolska, Kukulska said the idea for the film had been maturing for a long time. In her words, "the moment has matured". Earlier, various reports about the film had appeared that did not always match the facts.

The casting call

The search for the actress to play Anna Jantar is the first stage of work on the film. Women aged 18 to 35 have been invited. According to Polish Radio, the candidate does not have to be a professional actress; what matters is whether she can convey the singer's character and personality. Kukulska does not rule out taking part in the casting herself, but admits it is hard to say in advance what qualities the future lead should have.

Applications are being accepted until 20 November, and official auditions are to follow.

Timeline

Filming is due to begin in autumn 2027, with the premiere planned for 2028. It will be the first feature film about the artist.

Who was Anna Jantar

Her solo career began in 1973 and produced hits such as "Tyle słońca w całym mieście" and "Nic nie może wiecznie trwać". The singer died in March 1980 in a plane crash on a flight from New York to Warsaw. She was 29.
