Tokyo: Chwalińska to face Alycia Parks in round two, a chance for revenge

Maja Chwalińska now knows her opponent in the second round of the WTA 500 tournament in Tokyo. It will be American Alycia Parks, who beat China's Xinyu Wang 6:1, 7:6(7) on Monday 26 October 2026.

Polish player seeded second

Chwalińska was seeded second in the Japanese capital, so she had a bye in the first round. Her opponent was only decided by the match between Parks and Wang. The American is ranked 64th in the WTA rankings, while the Chinese player is 39th.

How Parks beat Wang

Parks dictated play from the start and won the first set 6:1. In the second set Wang improved and had three set points, but failed to convert any of them. A tie-break decided the outcome, and the American won it 9-7.

It was Parks's third win at the Tokyo event, as she began in qualifying. There she first beat Ena Shibahara 2:6, 7:6(7), 7:6(5), and then Britain's Heather Watson 6:1, 6:2.

Revenge for Monterrey

The two players have already met in August, at the WTA 500 tournament in Monterrey. The Polish player started well and won the first set 6:3. In the next two sets, however, Parks was better, winning 6:2, 6:2.

In Tokyo, Chwalińska will therefore have a chance to get her revenge. Her second-round match is the next stage of her run at one of the more important events on the WTA calendar at this point in the season.
