Netflix's new Polish series "Znieczulenie" (Anaesthesia) has quickly won over viewers in Poland. According to media reports, one day after its release was enough for the production to reach first place in the platform's national TOP 10 chart of series.
What the series is about
The series premiered on 4 November 2026. It has eight episodes, and the lead role is played by Leszek Lichota. He plays Dr Łazarz, an outstanding neurosurgeon. His career at a large hospital ends after a bold but unsuccessful operation, so he moves to a district hospital.
In the provinces he gets to know the local community and its rules. According to the official description, his willingness to break the rules to save patients inspires both admiration and controversy. His confidence and lack of humility also bring him into conflict with the system and medical ethics.
The cast also includes Karolina Gruszka, Aleksandra Popławska, Masza Wągrocka, Filip Kowalewicz, Dorota Kolak and Gamou Fall.
Netflix's first Polish medical series
According to Filmweb, "Znieczulenie" is the platform's first Polish medical series. Lichota has worked with Netflix before: he appeared in the new adaptation of "Znachor" (The Quack).
The website Antyweb notes that it is not yet known how the series will perform in the weekly chart against other new releases. The first-day position is only the start of tracking the title's popularity.
What this means for you
Netflix also offers Polish productions to viewers abroad, but it is worth checking in your own account whether individual titles are available in the UK. The sources we used give no information about the chart position in the UK or about subtitles in other languages.
